Welcome to our Chilli feature page.
This year we decided to collect a few unusual (or less common) varieties of Chilli. We have raised all from seed which we will seed save for next year. Some of the plants are for sale, others are for our own personal culinary adventures.
Bare in mind, if you're not a certified chilli fiend, there are plenty of varieties that won't leave your mouth feeling like there's been an explosion and some are included here with plants from the mild to extreme.

Chilli "Antillias Caribbean"
Scotch Bonnet Chilli with orange-red fruit. With a pungent and strong flavour it is great for sauces.

Chilli "Bangalore Torpedo""
Native to eastern India. Fruits can measure to 12cm and mature from green to red. Medium heat.

Chilli " Big Jim""
One of the world's biggest Chillis with pods to 30cm! Great for growing in pots. Friut is good for stuffing and is mild in heat.

Chilli "Bird's Eye"
This variety is one of the most popular chillis sold around Australia.
The plant is big, tough, very cold tolerant and produces chillies over a long period. Produces pods that point upward
Fruit is popular in Asian dishes and is hot.

Chilli "Cayenne"
A popular and easy to grow Chilli, Cayenne has a long twisted pod with rough textured skin; ideal to dry and powder or can be used fresh.

Chilli "Fire"
A mild Chilli despite it's name. Large pods produced in abundance on a compact plant. Great for pots
|

Chilli "Chocolate Habanero"
This is a stunning scotch bonnet / habanero type originating from Jamaica.
Similar in appearance to other Habanero chillies but chocolate brown in colour (no chocolate flavor).
The fruits are extremely hot, up to 600,000 scoville units

Chilli "Coles' Big Red"
Another of the large pod types, not especially hot but good flavour eaten green or when ripe. Easy to grow

Chilli "Fluoro"
A very ornamental plant to grow, compact and attractive with purple-green foliage. Flowers are also tinged with purple.
I am yet to try the fruit.

Chilli "Habanero Big Sun"
A large golden chilli with a strong fruity flavour, milder than other Habaneros. It still rates 300,000ScU

Chilli "Hot Yellow"
We are going to have to wait and see with this one. First plant on trial.

Chilli "Hungarian Hot Wax"
A very popular "yellow wax" type chilli. Prolific and easy to grow. Medium heat with thick crisp and crunchy pods, which make it great for stir fries,
for stuffing or to add a bit of spice to fresh garden salads.
The plant is very easy to grow, and looks spectacular with the colour changes from green to yellow to orange to red

From Hong Kong and related to the Cayenne, this Chilli produces loads of straight, thick fleshed fruit. Medium to hot.

One of the best known Chillis, wonderful pickled!
Easy to grow and produces pods of medium heat over a long period.
Highly recommended!

Chilli "Jalapeno x Cayenne"
A hybrid that has occurred in our own collection. Pods are Jalapeno shaped but longer and thinner like the cayenne.
I am yet to try the flavour.

Chilli "Mushroom"
Also known as Red Squash Pepper. Pods are abundant, medium - hot, thin walled and mature from green to red.
They are easier to grow than habaneros and produce more pods.

Chilli "Peter Penis"
As the name suggests this chilli looks remarkably like Peter's "old fella" Good to cook with and has a mild - medium heat.

Chilli "Piri Piri"
Growing wild across southern Africa this chilli is also known as the African Devil or the African Bird's Eye.
A hot chilli famous for the sauce of the same name.

Chilli "Satan's Kiss"
Native to Italy where it is known as "Bacio di Satana" The fruit is small, cherry-like. The pods are hot eaten raw
but lose some heat when cooked.

Chilli "Scotch Bonnet"
Scotch Bonnets are very hot chillies from the Caribbean. They have a distictive light , fruity flavour but still with some serious bite.

Chilli "Siam"
Asian Chilli rated as hot. Long thin fruit, green turning to golden yellow. Used in Indo-Chinese cooking. Adds colour and flavour.

Chilli "Super Hot Thai Demon"
Rated as very hot this new variety should produce 7cm red pods. Prolific and quick to fruit.

Chilli "Thai"
A most ornamental plant to grow, compact and great for pots. This chilli produces abundant fruit that go through
many colour changes from cream to purple to green to red. The pods are regarded as hot.

Chilli "Theresa"
Medium sized fruit which are medium to hot. Great flavour when used green. Should make a good pickler!
